How Estraints Develops and Reviews Technical Guidance
Wheelchair transportation standards are technical documents that change over time and vary between jurisdictions. Estraints uses a controlled review approach to separate source requirements, engineering interpretation, educational explanation and calculator logic.
Source identification
For each technical topic, we identify the relevant published standard, amendment or corrigendum, regulatory material and manufacturer information. Public Estraints guidance identifies the applicable reference and should not be treated as a substitute for the official publication.
Technical interpretation
We distinguish normative requirements from informative guidance and from Estraints explanatory material. Where a requirement varies by jurisdiction, the jurisdiction is stated rather than presenting one regional rule as universal.
Calculator governance
Where a standards framework is implemented in the Estraints calculator, the relevant source, edition and calculation logic should be controlled and reviewed when the source material changes.
Independent review
Where Estraints refers to independent technical review, the scope of that review is stated only to the extent supported by the underlying evidence. A review of one calculation method or technical topic is not represented as certification of an entire vehicle, installation or product.
Content review and updates
Technical pages are progressively being updated to identify the standards and editions reviewed, the technical reviewer, the last review date and material changes. Standards status is rechecked when a standards body announces a revision or new edition.
Corrections
If a technical error or outdated reference is identified, Estraints will review the source and correct the content. Material technical updates should be recorded where they affect interpretation, calculation or training content.
Limits of Estraints guidance
Estraints is an educational, calculation and documentation support platform. It does not replace the official standard, manufacturer instructions, legislation, regulatory approvals or professional engineering judgement.
