AS/NZS 10542.1 – WTORS in Australia and New Zealand
AS/NZS 10542.1 is the Australian/New Zealand standard for wheelchair tiedown and occupant-restraint systems (WTORS). It is based on ISO 10542-1 with national modifications for Australian and New Zealand conditions.
What does AS/NZS 10542.1 address?
The standard addresses WTORS design and performance, test methods, product information and important local requirements relevant to wheelchair transportation systems.
How is it related to ISO 10542-1?
The Australian/New Zealand publication adopts the ISO framework with national modifications. For local projects, the AS/NZS publication and its current amendments must be checked rather than relying solely on the international base document.
Current AS/NZS publication status
AS/NZS 10542.1:2015 is the current Australian/New Zealand WTORS publication and was reissued incorporating Amendment No. 1 in June 2025. Use the current official or licensed publication when applying amendment-specific requirements.
Why do amendments matter?
Standards can be amended between full editions. Estraints therefore treats the exact edition and applicable amendments as controlled source information when updating calculator logic, website guidance and training.
How does Estraints use AS/NZS 10542.1?
Where AS/NZS 10542.1 is the applicable framework, Estraints supports calculation and documentation of upper shoulder-belt anchorage geometry. The result supports engineering and QA records but does not replace the standard or regulatory certification.

Need to assess wheelchair shoulder-belt geometry?
Use the Estraints Wheelchair Restraint Calculator to calculate and document upper shoulder-belt anchorage geometry for the assessed wheelchair, occupant and vehicle configuration.
